Very interesting article recommended to me by my good friend Grandmaster Lix. America’s Addiction and the New Economics of Strategy. We are addicted to consumption. Businesses are addicted to taking advantage of us. So what are we going to do? As my buddy Dong (he’s from North Korea) aptly stated during a discussion earlier “I’m going to mortgage my house to get my Gucci Bomb Shelter”. Sadly, I feel that I must do the same.

Beautiful Data Visualization Madness
For the second day in a row, I have come across some sweet data visualizations so I think a post is warranted. Above is a screenshot of Zach Beane’s visualization of movie box office results. It is pretty similar to work done by the New York Times this past February except I find Beane’s effort much easier to understand and much more pleasing to use.
Another piece that I came across today is the above interactive graphic from the New York Times displaying Olympic medal counts by country for past summer Olympic Games. I had no idea the New York Times did work like this, but I am now digging the fact that they do.
A Tshirt and Some Superhero Supplies
My sister just returned last week from New York and brought along some sweet gifts.
First item is this Thermochromatic “Hypercolor” tshirt from American Apparel. Hypercolor was a clothing line that introduced temperature sensitive clothing in the trendy late 80’s. However, after technical issues, production stopped. Typically, I am not a fan of American Apparel, but their rescue of this item is much appreciated.
A Trip to the Timesink
Don’t lie to yourself. Unless your banking or marketing at someplace ridiculous (Kraft I hear is fun), chances are you have some downtime at work. I know I do. Here are two excellent ways to use your time.
Unnecessary Knowledge – A beautiful website that beckons you to keep refreshing for useless factoids.
Nitrome – Home to some pretty addicting and well made games. (Final Ninja is the way to go)
first time using the “more” function. click to see another great fact.
China’s Newest Fitness Sport
New York Times making it happen with some quality video reporting about Chinese women and their newest fitness activity: pole dancing.
More Proof that Philadelphia is Awesome
Beyond the crime, the history, and the diversity, Philadelphia’s manholes are making it happen.
I want to go to Croatia
Sea Organ is an architectural and experimental musical object located in Zadar, Croatia. Is a pipe organ that has a set of 35 musically tuned tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps played by the sea waves. The movement of the sea pushes air through, and depending on the size and force of the wave, it produces a somewhat random but harmonic sound. Designed by architect Nikola Basic in 2005, who recently received the European Prize for Urban Public Space for this project.
